Kevin pulls Andrea closer on the couch. He studies the girls on screen the way some men watch a poker table. “Halloween tells you everything,” he says. “That vampire girl? She’ll bite first, then let you taste the blood. Catwoman over there? She’ll make you crawl before she even takes the mask off.” Andrea smirks. “And the nurse?” “She’ll tie you down, take your temperature the old way, then leave the thermometer in while she steps out to grab a scalpel.” They pick the next girl. Devil horns, red thong, thigh-high boots. Kevin starts reading quiz questions from his phone: “Do you prefer front or back? Lights on or off? Safe word or no safe word?” Andrea answers for each costume while Kevin keeps score on her ribs with quick, precise fingers. She jerks, giggles, tries to twist away. The game ends when she pins him down and writes her own answers on his stomach with a nail. Later he hits play on his phone. Grainy footage of a cutting board, a ripe peach, his own thick fingers slicing it slow. Juice runs down his wrist. He licks it off, camera shaking. Andrea watches without comment until the video ends, then reaches for him without saying a word.
